Community Cares: A Year-in-Review of This Village’s Good Work

It is only as a team that Youth Homes can make a difference in the lives of our local youth, and it is only in partnership with our community that we can show them the care and support they deserve. In 2022, we have seen individuals, groups, businesses, organizations, and others still show up for our young people. The way everyone brought their own unique talents and resources together for one mission continues to demonstrate that This Community Cares - this is the magic of our community.

In honor of our village, here is a year-in-review of the ways you wrapped our youth in support and care.

  • Boys Team Charity Lamorinda League transformed the garden at our Cherry Lane home from washed up to wonderful! Together they made this sanctuary for our youth feel more like home.

    • 61 volunteers from Danville Dentistry gathered at our former East Bay Shelter home for a major repainting project. Their ability to take the space from drab to bright and inviting felt like magic!

    • Impact Diablo Valley selected us as the recipient of a $100,000 grant to make much-needed repairs to our Cherry Lane home. At the same time, they put together fun movie night gift bags for our youth to enjoy!

  • Danville Children’s Guild chose Youth Homes as the recipient of a $110,000 grant for our Enrichment Programs that provide more than typical therapeutic tools and allow them to learn and heal through play.

  • Joined by several of our community members, Boys Team Charity Orinda League gave our former East Bay Shelter home an incredible backyard makeover! From landscaping to building a pergola, they created a space for our youth to be outside and relax together.

  • Alamo Women’s Club, who are year-round supporters of our programs, hosted a scholar’s lunch at their club house where two of our youth were in attendance and awarded scholarships! We could not have been prouder to watch this moment.

  • St. Mary’s College students, Grateful Gatherings, and Manderley Home gave our Cherry Lane Home a complete makeover! From landscaping and building a new pergola, to a full interior revamp of new furnishings and décor, they gave our home a new life beyond our wildest dreams. • With the support of community, donors, staff, DOZE Home Brew Club, Sunrise Bistro, and many more, we gathered for Picnic in the Park to celebrate our youth and raise funds to support basic needs and create environments conducive for them to thrive.

    • We are lucky to often be graced by the presence of adorable furry friends with Alliance of Therapy Dogs, who join us for our monthly transition-age youth social gatherings.

    • Rossmoor’s LGBTQ+ Alliance celebrated Pride Month 2022 by giving back to the community, choosing Youth Homes as one of the organizations to share the proceeds of their fundraising efforts with.

    • Youth Homes Thrift Shop was renewed, refreshed, and refurbished by thrift shop volunteers and NCL with donations from Barbour Painting. The finished space was unrecognizable and changed the entire atmosphere of our shop for the absolute best!

And with all of that to show for this abundant year of partnership - THANK YOU! The life-changing work of Youth Homes would not be possible without these people, and so many more.
