Our expertise

Youth Homes staff is multicultural and brings both academic and real world experience to their work.

Our staff includes Group Home Administrators (GHAs), Marriage and Family Therapists (MFTs), Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSWs), and Doctorates in Psychology (Psy Ds).

Our senior staff members are leaders and change agents. They work in the vanguard of state-wide legislative changes to the foster care system and Continuum of Care Reform (CCR). Our county partners call us a model program for CCR, and our leadership team has trained other Contra Costa County group home programs on how to navigate CCR reform effectively and efficiently.

How do we know we’re on the right track? We measure what we do. We look for incremental change, the smalls steps that, when taken together, will enable young people to move forward with their lives. We use a variety of tools that give us the feedback we need: evidence-based practices, collecting outcome data and using what we learn to assess and improve our work. We integrate theory and technique to provide the highest level of quality care.

We have developed a system of care and treatment philosophy that is strength based, culturally sensitive and trauma informed. We combine the positive parenting principles of the Nurtured Heart Approach© with the crisis management techniques of Pro-Act©, and an understanding of the effects of trauma on behavior and relationships to deliver individualized, high quality services focused on strengthening permanent family ties and lifelong skills.

“What motivates me to work at Youth Homes is the sense of shared values from the top-down and knowing I am never alone when working with a child or family.”
—Carrie Johnson, Supervisor of our Foster Family Agency
