The Youth Homes Auxiliary Thrift Shop is managed and operated solely by volunteers. The only paid employee is a part-time handyman/janitor.

Hours of operation are Monday through Saturday, 10 am to 4 pm, except certain holidays. Volunteers work three hour shifts of 10 am to 1 pm, or 1 pm to 4 pm as many or as few days a month as they choose. They may elect to be cashiers, back room workers, or front room workers. A Shop committee member is responsible for scheduling the volunteers on a monthly basis. One does not have to be a member of an Auxiliary chapter in order to work at the Thrift Shop, but we encourage volunteers to become Auxiliary Members-at-large for annual dues of only $12.

The managing Shop Committee is made up of representatives from each chapter as well as members-at-large. Committee members have developed operating procedures designed to conduct the business in a consistent and efficient manner. These procedures are reproduced in a handbook which is given to every volunteer. Committee members work with new volunteers to help them learn our operating policies.

Thrift Shop finances are handled separately from Coordinating Council finances, but Council receives a monthly report from the Shop Treasurer. To date, the Thrift Shop has generated over $200,000 to benefit the children of Youth Homes since its opening in 1994.
